Travel Policy Model
At the request of the Strategic Travel Forum, Buying Solutions has led on a piece of work that has delivered a best practice travel policy model. This work included looking across the public sector at current policy standards and what potential savings are being lost by organisations as a consequence of weak and poor travel policies.
The policy model will support public sector organisations in achieving improved management control of their travel expenditure. This will be met by bringing a consistent and transparent approach to the travel booking and management process that will eliminate unnecessary administrative duplication.
Investment in this project has been vital, as the strength of individual departmental travel policies underpins the long term development of the Travel Services frameworks, both at Call-Off Contract and framework level. The discounts and transaction fee arrangements negotiated with the suppliers are based on committed levels of spend, and without travel policy management spend volumes are likely to decline. This would make it difficult to sustain the discount levels that are currently available and inhibit the opportunity for further volume growth in the future.
